Seed packets spread out on table for annual garden planning

After spending this weekend with our seed packets arrayed across our dining table, we got down to work and planted the crops that will need to be transplanted after growing inside for a number of weeks.

Barely three days later, we have a winner: the turnips seeds have been the first to sprout. Way to go turnip! (We’ve planted golden globe and purple top varieties, incidentally, and I should note that while turnips can be directly sown into the ground, we’re using Eliot Coleman’s multiplant seed block idea this year for this crop). I found a lovely post from six years ago on Farmgirl Fare all about Lowly Turnips and how they are ‘tip top’ in the garden.

I'd love to hear your thoughts
